About Sundevil Competitive Basketball

Our History

Sundevil Competitive Basketball (SCB) first came together in 2008 as a non-profit organization.

From the beginning the board of directors has been comprised of parents that love the game and recognized that a year round club that prepared their children for the competitive challenge of high school basketball was right for their families.

Our Mission

Sundevil Competitive Basketball's (SCB) mission is to provide basketball fundamentals, physical conditioning, mental toughness, & competitive game experience for athletes aspiring to play in high school.

We enhance our player's passion for basketball & focus on values & integrity as a player & as a person.

Our club works with the Mt Carmel High School (MCHS) coaches to provide individual & team skills expected for MCHS players. We develop 4th - 8th grade players throughout the year. However, playing for SCB does not guarantee a spot on the MCHS basketball team.

Quick FAQs

Does playing in the club guarantee my child will make the high school team?

No. Our goal is prepare your child to be ready to tryout for the high school teams and do the best they can according to their ability. Our club has seen many of our Alumni play for MCHS recently, but not all our players make the team.

How many players are on a team?

We strive to have somewhere between 8-12 players per team. It is a delicate balance between playing time and making sure we can field a competitive team when other sports, illness or vacations prevent all players from making it to the game.

Do you hold tryouts and do you cut players?

Yes, we hold a tryout before every season (4 per year) and ask that all returning players attend the tryouts along with all potential new players.

We do our best to find a team for all players, but in some case a player just may not be ready to participate on a team yet. In those cases, we do help those players find sources and opportunities to improve their skills so they'll be ready to tryout again the next season.

How are you different from all those other clubs I see in Thrive or Sol?

Not all teams we play against are coaching to prepare their players for a specific high school system - we are. Most of our kids play together for multiple seasons and years with this goal in mind.

Do your coaches have any connection with MCHS?

Our coaches have either played for MCHS in the past or help out (by coaching or other roles) with the high school teams. This allows our club to be inline with high school style of play and coaching strategies.

What People are saying about SCB

My son started SCB just after the covid lockdowns were somewhat being relaxed. No other club in the PQ area was even planning on starting back up so we thought we'd give it a try. I'm so happy we did. The growth in both my son's game and at being a teammate was awesome. I'd suggest to anyone with a player at home, especially one in the MCHS area, give it a try.

The Sundevils program has changed my kids for the better in so many ways. It's taught them the importance of being a good teammate, the willingness to push themselves, and the benefit of hard work. Both of my kids now have a deep love of basketball and competition they didn't have before, and it's because of the great environment created by the Sundevils program.
